They say that as a whale starves it digests its own stomach last. Such is the state of the Bummer-Free Zone these days. It's sad when most of your posts are about not posting often enough, and it is true, I haven't posted enough.
The worst part is that it's not for lack of something to say. I've got lots of stuff backed up, on standby, and ready to vomit forth onto your screens, but our computer is dead. If it were a goldfish I would flush it down the toilet, and until I am able to replace it the BFZ will likely remain a sad and quiet corner of the internet.
All offers of free and/or used computers will be politely declined. I don't want your charity, and that sort of thing is messy/sticky. In the words of George Washington- "Avoid foreign entanglements."

Seriously not taking free computers? Would you ever Give a free computer or object that perhaps you had and someone else needed? If not, cool you don't believe in charity... but if you would you should possibly accept that every now and then we all need a little help. Sometimes it's okay to be on the receiving end of it.
That said... now I really wish I had a spare computer to send down, just to be viciously nice, or nicely mean.
Hmm.
The whole not wanting charity thing was a joke. Sometimes I just delight in sounding like a crothchety old man. I have a long and storied tradition of accepting all sorts of charity, but I wouldn't feel right taking something as valuable as a computer for soemthing as frivolous as a blog. Lots of people have come out of the woodwork with computer loans or donations, but I just don't feel good about it.
You feelin' me?
I feel you.
Used computers are just that: used. The will probably put you right back in the place you are now, sooner, rather than later.
And the preaching man! How went the preaching????
Uh, they might put you in the same place, but until and unless they do, you have a computer. If someone offers you something valuable they aren't using, it's wasteful, and perhaps prideful, not to accept it.
Ah I understand but really, we're living in a world where old (but working) computers aren't all that uncommon, it's a nice gift but not exactly a kidney.
Anyway... Hope you're well Mr. Tate :)
I'm with Steve (though I have no idea who Steve is...)
If someone isn't using a computer, then even if it's just for personal use, I see no problem in not accepting it.
I'd rather have that used computer on your desk at home than in a landfill. Haven't you seen Wall-e?!
Wow, you guys must really want the bummer-free zone back. At least, that's how I will choose to interpret your comments.
Correct as you all undoubtedly are I will stay the course. ...But, you know, if a computer somehow mysteriously showed up on my back stoop like the proverbial baby in a basket, without anyt note or explanation of origin I would be forced to take it in and care for it. Just sayin'.
A couple of plans are in motion though to purchase a computer sometime between now and September.
you only live once...get a computer please..
As for the "if a computer just showed up" proclamation, that sort of contradicts your response to my offer. Unless the anonymity is what would give you the freedom to enjoy it and not feel somehow indebted to someone. I'm with Steve (whom I do know, very well :) ), and. . . the offer stands.
But I do still feel you. on the reticence.
I also know your address.
It's been two weeks, Josh, since your last real post. I'm starting to feel BFZ deprived. Only good news though, I have been posting like crazy since you've been gone. Averaging about one post per day. Pretty good I'd say, compared to my historical approx. 1/20 a day average.
