QUESTION OF THE DAY

Most of you have already separated into camps over the dog or cat issue, and I am not going to ask if you are a dog person or a cat person. That would be too facile. I want you to try and step back from your biases and, as objectively as possible, answer this question- which animal provides the most benefit, in terms of services rendered, to their respective owners? Which is the most useful pet today?

Are you including farm animals?

Dogs by a wide margin! A dog is better than a trip to the doctor in terms of health and stress management!

A dog makes a good sentry and can even discourage criminals at times. Beyond that, the benefits are less practical and more abstract like what Mom wrote about above. Cats can be effective exterminators of some vermin. I give the edge to dogs.

My dog is all bark, no bite, so I'm not sure she'd be useful.

My cat is a skilled hunter, but always leave his prey's guts and head on my porch. So that is gross.

It's a toss-up. Who am I kidding? My dog wins hands down. You've seen her. She's a beauty of a beast!

Fuzzy. Next question.

Dogs love you. Cats demand you love them. I want the giver not the taker, please. <3
